Call branded

It wasn’t intentional, but not a bad thing. Has anyone else had there call sign become their brand or nickname. It started on different message boards through the 90’s. Many people I talked to get frustrated when they try to pick a username and it’s been taken; I rarely have that problem. I use my call sign as my username for everything. It’s in my email address, my message boards, my social networking, everything. I find it interesting the opportunities that has arose due to the call sign being my username and signature.

Why am I calling it a “brand”? I have read several marketing articles that talk about having a “brand” or a unique name that sets you apart from others; a description that people remember. I run into many people who call me “proman”, or “3PRO guy”; it became a description, name or brand. I have done a name search and there are an abundance of David Hoffman, Dave Hoffman, and even worse David L Hoffman, and Dave L Hoffman. The N3PRO sets me apart from the masses. I’m an lucky the the FCC gave me PRO and not PMS hi!

Except for Youtube and n3pro.com; neither I understand – I have a unique brand.

I do consider callsigns a brand as well. Your callsign is recognizable and PRO is a positive + 5 characters is shorter than any username available on any system.

The more you use it (across platforms and in more content) the more branded you and your work becomes. This also plays a role in your SEO results. It’s good to stick to one name (or callsign) on all of the services for building presence, rankings, and simply for people to find you.

You have branded yourself by your callsign well. I have thought about doing the same for years but didn’t switch over in time. I am now @ChrisMatthieu on just about every service except 73s.org (N7ICE).
